A Bio-Optical Model for retrieval of Oceanic Chlorophyll

We have developed one R_{rs} --> C algorithm that computes the chlorophyll concentration (C) for a given set of remote sensing reflectances ( R_{rs}). Our approach has three attractive features:

  1. We do not invoke the "isotropic" assumption, because we use a coupled air-ocean radiative transfer model (CAO-DISORT);
  2. We avoid uncertainties associated with atmospheric contributions, because we use a transparent atmosphere in this case (no atmosphere);
  3. We have validated our approach against the R_{rs} <--> C data provided in the SeaBASS data base for a large range of chlorophyll concentrations and solar zenith angles.

Current version:
Version 1.2: stamnes_rrs-1.2.tar.gz

Click on the link to download the code for the algorithm. Included in this package is the necessary LUT (Look-Up Table) and an example input and output file.

The computer program (Fortran 90) implementing the algorithm can be viewed without downloading the entire package by clicking HERE.
There is a README file for the program as well.

NOTE: The bio-optical model package has been updated to version 1.2. If you downloaded version 1.0, between February 7th and February 15th, then the LUT file "rrs_16_5_9.dat" contains a few errors. Version 1.1 contains the corrected LUT file as well as the old broken file called "rrs_16_5_9-donotuse.dat". Version 1.2 only contains the corrected LUT, renamed "rrs_LUT.dat". Older versions are still available for download below.

Older versions:
Version 1.1: stamnes_rrs-1.1.tar.gz
Version 1.0: stamnes_rrs-1.0.tar.gz
